As the Celebrations Go On

Eid ul Fitr might have ended a while ago, and some people are getting ready to make their way to Hajj, but the spirit of celebration continues within the ISNA community. On July 15 ISNA Canada hosted their annual Eid dinner, opening their doors to over 500 people! The gym transformed into a beautiful venue, elegantly decorated to mark the end of the month of Ramadan. The night included a line up of speakers starting with our beloved Shaykh Abdalla Idris, who reminded us with his words of guidance and spiritual enlightenment that Eid is a time to honor our efforts and carry the spirit of the month of Ramadan in our hearts, and come together in happiness and celebration. The event was also attended by local politicians who appreciated the Muslim spirit in our communities and the contribution of Canadian Muslims to the nation’s landscape. Special words by MPs Sven Spengemann and Iqra Khalid and Councillors Karen Ras and Sue McFadden were a heartwarming reminder that we are all a part of a bigger canvas in Canada, and as we celebrate our beloved holiday with our community, we are joined by our friends and neighbors who honor us with their presence at our celebrations.

The highlight of the night was a remarkable performance by the Sooriana Group that left the room clapping and singing along to some beautiful nasheeds. With their enthusiasm and energy, they captured the audience’s hearts and even Shaykh Abdalla was seen singing along as the group did their own rendition of Tala’al badru Alayna while Sven Spengemann and Iqra Khalid clapped along in the festivities!

The little guests weren’t forgotten in Eid festivities as the volunteers put together a fantastic line up for kids under the age of 10. The children were treated to a special carnival of their own, where they had a number of interactive activities, face painting, games and treats galore!

The evening ended with a grand buffet of delicious food prepared by Al Mustafa Catering and served by the remarkable volunteers who were on point with their service and smiles! This year’s Eid dinner was another amazing example of how the community at ISNA Canada comes together to celebrate the holidays in such fine fashion and fervor!
