Each year with the onset of Ramadan our team at ISNA Canada’s Islamic Centre works tirelessly around the clock to deliver a fantastic experience for its own community. This includes the usual everything from offering congregational prayer service, ushering, baby-sitting to breaking fasts and eating breakfast.
However, this year we have gone beyond the usual internal experience. To give our volunteers the opportunity to get involved in community service in a different way – we decided to try out a neighbourhood outreach program!
We decided it was important to make Ramadan a little special for our own neighbours, right here around the centre. The initiative was spearheaded by a couple of volunteers, Sr Aamina Hussein and Sr Amena Balbaaki,
Laden with a little gift, plenty of goodwill, enthusiasm, neighbourly love, a smile and great cheer our intrepid volunteers ventured out of the center and contacted many of the businesses and the IONA schools along the South Sheridan way.
Alhamdulillah the efforts were well received and this was a first step to establishing stronger ties with our neighbours and getting to know them better. We will endeavor to continue keeping in touch with them over the year.
Raamdan, next year insh’Allah, we shall host a community iftar for our neighbours too. If you would like to be part of this experience please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org
