The ISNA Food Bank Appreciates You!

The Annual ISNA Food Bank Dinner was held at the ISNA Canada Centre on Saturday, March 19th, 2016.

The theme this year was one of “Appreciation and Gratitude for Our Supporters.” Approximately 425 persons attended. The gym was exquisitely decorated and the food was delicious. The highlights were a performance by our children, inspiring talks by Ustadh Amjad Tarsin, Muslim Chaplain at the University of Toronto, and Shaykh Abdalla Idris Ali, ISNA Canada’s Executive Director, who helped raise $85,000 in a soft appeal. The night was topped off by renowned artist, Nader Khan, who entertained the crowd with beautiful nasheeds.

Special thanks to our wonderful team of 64 volunteers who worked very hard to stage this overwhelmingly successful program.

Initiated in 2008, the ISNA Canada Food Bank serviced 20 families a month. Now, 8 years later, the food bank is servicing 500+ families a month, with a growth rate of 30+ new families registered monthly. This amazing program is run and operated by volunteers, the backbone of our organization.

This is our 8th year of operation and with the recent influx of Syrian Newcomers, the need for this program has increased tremendously. On a monthly basis, your Food Bank helps 500+ families consisting of 2,000 individuals with approximately 30,000 lbs. of food items. We also serve them a continental breakfast as they wait to be processed. 33% of our clients are children and 39% are single moms. Additionally, our newcomer numbers continue to increase.

Because many of our clients would commute from Hamilton each month to receive their food package, the food bank helped launch another food bank in Hamilton earlier this year. Our operations have expanded and the need for this program continues to increase. We depend on Allah (SWT) and our concerned supporters like you to help us achieve our mission of serving the poor, changing their lives, and giving them hope.

If you’d like to help, offering assistance can be as simple as volunteering, donating a non-perishable food item, or donating money.

We thank you all for attending the appreciation dinner and pray that Allah (SWT) bless you, your family, and reward you immensely for your noble deeds. Ameen.
