There was a time not too long ago when being able to indulge in halal North American fare was not an easy feat. These days, thanks to creative and passionate entrepreneurs (and the bounty of the Lord) we no longer suffer from a scarcity in this area. The landscape is now awash with options.
In the last few years, there has been an explosion in burger joints across the GTA, much to this writer’s delight. We’ve already brought you reviews for a few of these great restaurants, including Burger Factory and Hwy 55 Burgers, Shakes and Fries, but here is another one we don’t think you should miss!
Owner Mohamed Attia opened On the Bun in 2012. Mohamed himself had grown up in the restaurant business and began his cooking adventures at the young age of 4. Inspired by his upbringing, the success of other businesses in the community and wanting to explore and share diverse food options with people, On the Bun was brought to life.
But what makes this spot so unique?
The casual eatery offers a focused menu of burgers and sandwiches that contain high-quality ingredients that reflect in the bun down to the seasoning, sauces and toppings.
Their food isn’t your typical greasy fare. At On the Bun, eating a burger and fries isn’t a coma-inducing experience. The homemade patties aren’t dripping in grease and you don’t leave feeling bloated and physically overwhelmed post-meal.
Standout menu items include the famed Masala burger and the Stacked Poutine. So light and fresh, this burger is spiced to perfection. The latter is a beautiful blend of minced meat and poutine, normally ordered separately- but gloriously combined here with great success.
So the next time you feel like having a burger and you’ve been to all the other amazing joints around town, stop by On the Bun for something new! We’ve been told expansions to the menu are in the cards for the future!
