ISNA Canada, perhaps the most prominent Muslim organization in the country, has served Muslims locally, nationally and internationally for almost forty years. ISNA Canada recognized the need to provide relevant religious programs and services to our community in order to enhance the lives of Canadian Muslims. Its ground-breaking services include a halal certification service done via the ISNA Halal Certification Agency and Islamic home financing.
With the rapid growth of the Canadian Muslim community, ISNA Canada’s vast umbrella of programs was created as a response to our community’s ever increasing needs. A minimum of 30 different services are directed and controlled by a few specialized staff from the head office located at the ISNA Islamic Center of Canada (ICC). The organization benefits greatly from the cooperation and dedication of our volunteers, many of whom are pillars of the community. In the coming months, Lanterns will showcase how ISNA Canada is making an extraordinary difference to the lives of Canadian Muslims.
For example, the ISNA Canada Annual Convention is one of ISNA Canada’s more prominent programs. Since its inception, the convention has been a meeting place of both people and ideas.
ISNA Canada has embraced the programs delivered by its affiliates such as MYNA (Muslim Youth of North America) and the MSAs (Muslim Student Association). We have also developed strong relationships with other registered charities, such as CAM-D (Canadian Association for Muslims with Disabilities).
In addition to building bridges of understanding and cooperation within our diverse community, ISNA Canada also plays a pivotal role in extending those bridges to include people of all faiths.
Less well known, and yet critically important, are our efforts that go beyond the Muslim community in Canada. These kinds of projects are often more humanitarian than theological, more global than national, and altogether more complex and nuanced. Such efforts include working with relief organizations to address the tragedies taking place in Syria, for instance, or to alleviate the plight of those hit by the natural disasters in South East Asia.
ISNA Canada offers a membership program which helps keep our vision alive. Your contributions, both material as well as moral, help sustain the projects that are vital to our survival and development in this part of the globe. Together, we look forward to developing a strong relationship and building bridges both within our faith community and without.
